A years back in 2016 I saw a upcoming audition MasterChef. Hosted by the famous Chef Gordon Ramsay. I agonized over the perfect dish to bring. I came up with this stunning roasted carrots, purple cauliflower, and golden and red beets in olive oil and sea salt with fresh lemon squeezed on top.
I roasted For 40 minutes in aluminum foil at 400 degrees all the root vegetables with evo and sea salt. Blanched golden beet greens and Tuscan, purple, and curly kale. I made a tahini lemon honey dressing. carefully cut up Barrel feta and cooked the very healthy and flavorful bulgur wheat. I put all of my items in separate containers and my dressing in a squeeze bottle.
I drove to Georgetown DC for the casting call. I had my application all filled out and had practiced plating my dish down to a science. I was all dressed up and ready to go. My roomate at the time came for moral support. And then we waited…………………………
We waited so long that my roommate ordered a pizza. Best Idea Ever! Should of sold it by the slice.
After waiting 4 hours I finally got to present my dish for review. I had gloves on a rag to clean up any spills. I had studied presentations videos and read all about plating. The judges went around the table trying some of the food and asking questions. At the time I just graduated with my Mechanical Engineering degree. I use to show dogs for a living. So I thought I had some interesting background. I was dressed in a nice Green J Crew dress and hair done up. The casting agents kept asking me if I was conservative or religious. I should of lied and said yes. I learned that day that cooking shows are just looking for people to fill roles. I didn’t fit any role they wanted. I did make it all the way to the final rounds of the casting. I was up against people who were raw vegan cooks that used crystals for inspiration. What made me mad was I watched a woman sell her Jambalaya to another contestant. The problem with this is the show was for amature chefs. Therefore, she violated this right in front of me. Another contestant owned a restaurant and said he cooked in it when he had too.
I think if I ever do get the nerve up to try out MasterChef again I will be a conservative nomadic forager 🙂
All the more reason to try again. Unfortunately, TV sometimes isn’t as pretty/talented/amazing as they make it seem either. Don’t be afraid to try again.

Thank you! Maybe next year. I think I did learn a lot from the experience.

Take that and use it to your advantage. Unfortunately other people around you probably took whatever advantage they could.
